Perfect maintenance of artificial grass

At Varinias, we do not see maintenance as a luxury, but as a necessity.

Tips for perfect maintenance

Are you in need of good-looking artificial grass on Ibiza? That’s great! Just a minimum of regular care and maintenance is required to achieve and obtain adequate performance and to create an ideal, green surface.

At Varinias, we do not see maintenance as a luxury, but as a necessity. Only the best maintenance delivers a surface in perfect condition and that is exactly why we offer you this particular webpage. The following information is intended to help, as well as to extend the useful life of our artificial turf on your property. What we guarantee you? Just pure satisfaction whilst looking outside over your Ibiza garden.

Maintenance rule #1

Brush it!

It is really convenient to brush the synthetic fibres on a weekly basis*. Use a plastic bristle brush in order to keep them straight and to easily remove dirt on the surface.

*Of course, the intensity of maintenance depends on the amount of activities that are carried out on the particular surface.

Maintenance rule #2

Water it!

Because of the fact that dust can easily settle on the surface, we advise you to water it by using a hose. It only takes a couple of minutes, and it will help maintain the ideal temperature over the entire surface. This will keep the artificial grass fresh, bright and colourful as well!

Maintenance rule #3

The RealSmell Enzymatic Cleaner

In general, the accumulation of bacteria is not a problem when you clean your artificial grass frequently. In case you have the idea that bacteria are present, you should use the Varinias enzyme cleaner to eliminate the accumulation of any spores of bacteria. Thereby, thanks to its triple effect, you sanitize the surface, help dissipate the static charge, and give the surface a smell of freshly cut grass. Yes, all at the same time!

When you have to deal with a small area, for example an area where your pet urinates frequently, you can use the enzyme cleaner in a spray bottle. In case you have to take care of the entire lawn, use a garden hose fitting to treat larger areas.

Whilst using a chemical cleaner, you should be very careful and follow the manufacturer’s instructions strictly. Any doubts and/or questions? Please contact use and we will give you all the advice you need.

Stain removal

Do you spot any spots that need to be removed? Since fresh spots are easier to remove than dry ones, we advise you to act quickly.

  • Remove any solid with the help of a plastic spatula.
  • Dry the excess liquid with plenty of paper towels or an absorbent cloth.

The different types of spots:

  • Stains that can be removed with the Realsmell Enzyme Cleaner: coffee, tea, juice, cocoa, watercolours, milk, ice cream, ketchup, food colouring, mustard, margarine, butter, beer, and sodas. The enzyme cleaner can be used freely on the surface:
  1. Manual spray | Shake the product and apply it directly to the surface. Let it act and brush the surface straight. If desired, it can be rinsed with water, or just let it dry.
  2. Hose spray | Keep the water passage closed and connect the hose to the container. Now, open the water hose gently (minimum pressure of 3 bar) and open the red key of the sprayer. Then, open the black key that will automatically mix a 2% proportion of the product with the water. Finally, in an upright position, apply it to the grass, brush it and let it dry.

By using a 750ml container in combination with the hose-dispenser (mix 2% water), we clean-up to 400m2 of surface.

  • Stains that can be removed with cleaners that include chemicals such as PH dry cleaning fluids are asphalt, pen ink, bitumen, cooking oil, lipstick, soil wax, suntan oil, motor grease, and gum. To minimize possible negative effects on the sub-base, the cleaner should be applied by rubbing with an impregnated cloth.
  1. These cleaners should be applied sparingly, using a damp cloth. To avoid penetration into the grass, please be careful whilst maintaining the surface.
  2. Before the use of any chemical substance, please consult the Varinias technical team.
  • Chewing gum can be removed with the use of the Varinias Realsmell Enzyme Cleaner, or by freezing. Aerosols or floor cleaning coolants can be used for this purpose. When using these products, be very careful and strictly follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Want to clean animal waste? Shake the Realsmell Enzyme Cleaner and spray it directly on the surface. Leave it for a few minutes and rub it with a brush against the hair to help the grass stay straight. The double-acting Realsmell Enzyme Cleaner cleanses and eliminates bad smell and produces bacterial enzymes that act by degrading organic matter. After application, a pleasant aroma is present.

Bad weather

Varinias artificial turf freezes at temperatures below -5. Therefore, we advise you to not use the surface in these conditions. In any case its use is unavoidable, make sure you apply dry, vaporized salt first. Use an application dose of approximately 0.15 kg/m2. Heavy snowfall on the island? Avoid sharp metals or plastic blades at any time and use wooden shovels to remove the snow.

Sewer system

The drainage system, pipe network, boxes and collectors must be checked and cleaned as often as necessary. Although it is quite unlikely in a porous installation, use a sponge roll to stimulate the drainage when it is struggling.

Weeds

Occasionally, weed control must be carried out to ensure the vegetation does not accumulate on the surface. Whilst maintaining the surface, weed control products must be water-based products at any time. When the weeds have been eradicated, everything (roots included) is removed from the grass structure.

Moss and algae require specialized treatment. This includes the use of certain techniques and chemicals to eliminate any waste. If this problem occurs, please contact the company in charge of the installation.

Repairs

Minor damage can occur under intensive use of the installation and can lead to larger-scale problems if not repaired quickly. Therefore, a daily surface inspection and immediate repair of outstanding problems by specialized Varinias installers is essential.

Twice a year, the installation must undergo a general inspection. During this inspection, all joints should be inspected, and weak points should be noted.

Repairs are easier to carry out in hot and dry weather conditions, as the adhesives grip better and consolidate faster. Adhesives should not be used when the floor is wet (except under expert supervision). If you are not an expert in the field, please contact the Varinias installation team for any minor-and other repairs.

Restrictions

  • Artificial turf on Ibiza can be damaged by solvents, acids and oil derivatives. Please avoid spills of these kind of products!
  • Although these products do not spread flames, it burns easily in combination with cigarettes, matches or excessive heat and sparks. In case of a fire, notify the installer for immediate repair or to replace the affected part(s).
  • Avoid vehicle traffic exceeding 1.000 kg and do not use vehicles with nail wheels or chains.
  • Do not store materials such as drums or wood on the artificial grass.
  • Please notice that the entry of garbage and mud affects the behaviour of the artificial turf surface.
  • Cleaning costs are high, so monitoring and controlling these restrictions is advised. If you decide to not put the restrictions into practice, you must accept the responsibility for any future defects.
